A top shelf supermarket wine. We review the Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon from Bogle Winery and available widely, including at many Trader Joe’s locations.

Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon Review

Cabernet Sauvignon from “hillside” vineyards in California. The wine spends 13 months in a combination of new and used French oak plus neutral American oak and is vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet has an SRP of $20 and is available widely, including at many Trader Joe’s locations for as low as $15.

Today we’re checking out a popular wine with a catchy label. It’s also interesting to note that the wine makes a big deal of pointing out the grapes come from “hillside” vineyards. Whether that’s just a marketing tactic, I’m not sure, but there is something to the claim.

From the bottle:

Harnessing the power of nature.

Juggernaut grapes are grown in challenging conditions, where true grit and determination yield spectacular results. Tenacious Cabernet Sauvignon vines struggle to find purchase on steep, rocky hillsides, with well-draining soils inspiring roots to burrow deep in search of life-sustaining moisture. The reward is a fierce, brave, velvety wine with intense black fruit and hints of vanilla and anise leading to a long, bold finish. Overcoming hardship build character.

The 2020 Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon opens with plentiful aromas of vanilla, spice and cola plus black cherry and plum. If you like your Cab with a lot of oak influence, this is the one for you!

Tasting reveals dark and juicy fruit with a lot of oaky spice, a touch of earthiness and a smooth mouthfeel. This is crowd pleasing kind of wine that would go really well with a burger off the grill. The oakiness does subside a bit with some time in the glass too.

It ends dry, long and even a bit savory and was pretty similar on day 2. Considering this wine can be found just about everywhere (including most supermarkets), this is an impressive effort.
