A new wine in the Kirkland Signature line at Costco. We review the 2022 Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras.
A GSM blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre from Vacqueyras in the southern Rhone Valley of France.
After recently hearing rumors of this new wine, we were quite happy to see it pop up on the shelves of our local store. Vacqueyras, neighbor to Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, makes wines in a similar style with a lower price tag, so it’s a great place to find value.
A look at the back label reveals that this wine is made by Guillaume Gonnet, the same producer behind the excellent Kirkland Signature Chateauneuf-du-Pape. That’s certainly a promising start. Let’s check it out!

Vacqueyras is situated in the Southern Rhone Valley, in the heart of Provence. The vineyards are surrounded by the herbs of Provence – wild thyme and rosemary – aromas found in this wine. The famous mistral wind and warm Mediterranean sun concentrate the plum, cherry and blackberry aromas. This wine is best enjoyed decanted to release its full potential or could be cellared a few more years.
14.5% Alcohol
The 2022 Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras opens with a very nice, attractive aroma of red and black cherry, strawberry and blackberry along with lots of dried herbal/garrigue notes, touches of licorice and baking spice.
Tasting reveals a very nice example of Southern Rhone Grenache. Savory, balanced and with lots of flavor, this is quite easy to drink. It features similar flavors to the nose with some blood orange in the mouth as well.
It ends dry, a bit tart and a touch grippy and crunchy on the long and lasting finish. It was similar on day 2.
This is a great value right here, just like the aforementioned Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape as well as the Kirkland Signature Cotes du Rhone Villages!
