Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras Review

A new vintage of a delightful French red in the Kirkland Signature line at Costco. We review the 2024 Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras.

Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras Review

A GSM blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre from Vacqueyras in the southern Rhone Valley of France.

We were big fans of this wine after the inaugural 2022 vintage and were quite disappointed that the 2023 never showed up at our local store. As such, we were more than happy to snag the new 2024 vintage.

One of the reasons is that Vacqueyras, a neighbor to Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, makes wines in a similar style to those regions with a lower price tag. That makes it a great place to find value, which was proven true with the 2022.

The 2024 we are reviewing today is once again made by Guillaume Gonnet, the same producer as the always excellent Kirkland Signature Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Let’s check the 2024 out!

The 2024 Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras is available exclusively at Costco. It sells for $12.99 and is imported by Misa Imports.

From the bottle:

2024 Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras

Vacqueyras is situated in the Southern Rhone Valley, in the heart of Provence. Its sun-drenched vineyards are framed by the fragrant wild herbs of Provence – thyme and rosemary, which echo in the aromas of this expressive wine.

Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras 2024 displays vibrant notes of raspberry, cherry, and cranberry, with elegant floral aromas of violet, dried herbs, and rich aromatic spices. The mouth feel is soft and bright with a long, juicy finish. This wine should be decanted to enhance its aromas and flavors, or it can be cellared for additional years to gain additional complexity and depth.

14.5% Alcohol

Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras Back Label

The 2024 Kirkland Signature Vacqueyras opens with a very nice, attractive aroma of red and black cherry, strawberry and blackberry along with lots of dried herbal/garrigue notes and licorice plus touches of baking spice and black pepper. It’s a great start.

Tasting reveals a very nice example of Southern Rhone Grenache once again. Savory, balanced, complex and with plenty of depth and flavor, this is quite easy to drink. It features similar flavors to the nose with some blood orange in the mouth as well. This is absolutely a delight at this price.

It ends dry, grippy and long and lasting finish and was just as good on day 2.

This is a fantastic value right here, just like the aforementioned Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape as well as the Kirkland Signature Cotes du Rhone Villages!
