What an unexpected treat we have today – absolutely delicious aged Sangiovese from McLaren Vale, Australia of all places!

How exactly this deal came to be we can’t disclose, but we know the adventuresome among you are in for a wonderful treat. Here’s how the winery describes this wine:
I love my wines soft and cuddly whilst a few of the more progressive types around the winery are somewhat more masochistic, leaning towards the old world and their oft challenging drinking experiences. Grown by a fella so important to the region he has a golden mile named after him, time has been particularly kind to this wine. The grainy tannins have been somewhat tamed and the notes of worn leather, cedar boxed dry herbs, spiced cherries and plenty else have me finally siding with the rest of the crew and as such here I am… supremely confident that if you pick the time and place you’ll love this wine.
Loom Wine is a vibrant and progressive family-owned winery based in McLaren Vale, South Australia. In addition to their own vineyards, Loom Wine work closely with various growers and distinguished vineyards throughout South Australia. The SV range represents the purest and most expressive individual vineyards from each vintage and is produced in extremely limited quantities.
The only downside to today’s deal? It’s those “extremely limited quantities”. If you want to take part, get those orders in early.

100% Sangiovese fruit from Nat McMurtrie’s award winning single site in McLaren Vale. Fermentation took place on skins in 2 tonne fermenters with two pump-overs daily until dry. The wine was then transferred to a mix of French and American oak for 14 months to build complexity. Vegan friendly.

The 2014 Loom SV McLaren Vale Sangiovese opens with pleasing aromas of red and black cherry, cedar and leather with very nicely integrated spice and herbal notes. This is quite harmonious and enticing at 9 years of age.
The wine tastes rich and savory with lots of bright cherry, spice and herbal notes notes along with a bit of balsamic. It’s very smooth at this point with the tannins having resolved nicely with age, but they still give a bit of grip to go along with the good acidity.
It ends dry, very long and quite savory with a bit of chewiness to it and was just as good on day 2.
This has aged wonderfully (no doubt the screwcap helped with that) much like you would find in an aged Tuscan red. And I think this likely still has at least 1-2 years of prime drinking remaining. It’s very surprising this is from Australia! Don’t miss your chance to try it.
