Lucas & Lewellen Valley View Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Cabalicious!

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: May 14, 2019

Napa Valley’s got nothing on this deliciously oaked Estate Cab, the Lucas & Lewellen Valley View Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lucas & Lewellen Valley View Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - Cabalicious!

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Petit Verdot, 7.5% Malbec, 5% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from the Valley View Estate Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara, California. The wine is aged for 21 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new.

Sample submitted for review. The Lucas & Lewellen Valley View Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has an SRP of $25 and is available for as low as $19.99. 2,518 cases produced.

From the bottle:

Long-time grower Louis Lucas and wine enthusiast Judge Royce Lewellen created Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards with one objective in mind – to produce fine wine from their premium Santa Barbara County vineyards.

Vineyard: Valley View Block 7, 15, 16
Viticulture: Sustainably Farmed, Hand-Harvested
Cooperage: 21 months in oak barrels, 40% new
Profile: Dry, Full Bodied
Tasting Notes: A core of Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot produce rich blackberry and fig jam notes.

14.5% Alcohol

The 2016 Lucas & Lewellen Valley View Cabernet Sauvignon begins with an enticing aroma of blackberry, plum and black cherry along with loads of vanilla plus beautiful touches of caramel and baking spice. The wine tastes smooth, silky, rich and balanced with all the flavors from the nose re-appearing in the mouth along with leather, licorice, pepper and some dried herbs. It ends dry and long with touches of tobacco.

This is pure French-oaked, Cabernet deliciousness!
