Let’s take a look at the Carneros Pinot first.

From the Napa Valley side of Carneros, the 2021 Meadowcroft Carneros Napa Valley Pinot Noir spent time in 25% new French oak plus 5% American oak. Bottled in March of 2022 the wine has settled in nicely and is drinking beautifully right now. Only 292 cases were produced.

From the winery:

TASTING NOTE: Densely concentrated, with cheerful aromatics of pomegranate, red cherries, vanilla bean, and baking spice. The mouth-feel is supple, with delicious, concentrated fruit flavors of strawberry rhubarb pie and cranberries followed by secondary, savory notes of fresh herbs. A reliable daily drinker, this sumptuous Pinot is a delightful expression of cool-climate Pinot Noir.

FOOD PAIRING: This bright and balanced wine has both bright acidity and vibrant fruit character, which makes it an easy match for wood-fired pizza or dishes that feature mushrooms, like truffled risotto with aged pecorino.

The 2021 Meadowcroft Carneros Napa Valley Pinot Noir opens with a very pleasing aroma of black cherry, some lovely oaky spice, cedar, herbs, cola and a touch of rhubarb. It’s a great start.

The wine tastes similar to the nose, with a bit more rhubarb in the mouth plus some strawberry as well. Quite smooth and lush, this is a great example of Carneros Pinot.

It ends dry, long, lively and a bit grippy. It was even a bit better on day 2 where there was a bit more strawberry and lots of lingering spice. Fantastic!

Up next we’ve got the 2021 Meadowcroft Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, which as we mentioned, won Double Gold at San Francisco Wine Chronicle Competition. Just 304 cases were produced.

From the winery:

TASTING NOTE: Generous notes of strawberries and raspberries leap from the glass. Layered with secondary notes of cranberry and baking spice lead to lifted and expressive suggestions of red fruit, strawberry compote, and cranberry coulis. The palate is polished, with integrated tannins, balanced acidity with an extended finish.

FOOD PAIRING: The concentrated richness and exceptional acidity that are indicative of a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir make this intense wine a remarkable partner with food. We recommend anything with mushrooms, cedar plank grilled salmon, or lamb and duck. Our cheese recommendations would include something aged and salty, like Gouda or aged cheddar cheese.

The 2021 Meadowcroft Russian River Valley Pinot Noir begins with a beautiful fruit (red and black cherry) and floral aroma that also features cedar, baking spice and vanilla. It’s a really lovely start.

Taking a sip reveals the wine to be very smooth with similar flavors to the nose plus touches of oaky spice and a hint of cranberry. Showcasing the juicy fruit, spice and other touches deftly, this is a wonderful, easy to drink Pinot with very good complexity.

It ends dry and very long and was similar on day 2. This is an excellent example of RRV Pinot.
