If there’s one thing we know, it’s that all of you love a good Meadowcroft deal. Well, today we have a great one on a Rhone-style GSM blend.
Consisting of 66% Syrah, 21% Grenache and 13% Mourvedre, the wine was aged in Hungarian oak for around 2 years. Just a tiny 219 cases were produced.
Owner/winegrower Tom Meadowcroft has spent decades managing some of the top vineyard sites in Napa and Sonoma for big names like Cakebread, Opus One, Stags Leap and more.
Combine those top notch grapes with the experience of winemaker Petar Kirilov (who used to work with Clark Smith and you may remember from some of our excellent deals on his Kukeri label) and you definitely have a winning combination.
The 2020 vintage of this wine had big scores between 93-points (International Wine Report) and 96-points (Sunset International Wine Competition where it also won Double Gold). There aren’t yet any outside ratings on the 2021 vintage we are offering today but we put it in that same ballpark, giving it a Perfect 10 (94+ point) Taste Rating.
Of course, a small production wine like this doesn’t come cheap, with a normal price of $45. However for the next day we’re slashing that price by XX%!

TASTING NOTES: This Rhone-style blend leads with bold notes of vanilla, blueberries, and dark cherries. The palate is delectably smooth, with suggestions of sweet cherry cola, blackberry bramble and baked bread. The hungarian oak barrels used in the maturation process lend notes subtle smoke and sweet vanilla. This medium-bodied wine finishes elegantly, with lingering characters of Amarena cherry and roasted coffee beans that integrate nicely with the precise tannin structure.
SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS: GSM blends call for full-flavored pairings, like dishes with fresh herbs like sage, rosemary, or crushed red pepper. Robust, fatty pairings like grilled ribeye or sausages are also a delicious choice.

The 2021 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre) opens with a very expressive and inviting aroma loaded with delectable spicy dark fruit plus plenty of licorice, vanilla, cedar, cola and more. It’s a great start.
Taking a sip of the wine reveals it to be smooth, dense and full of flavor with similar characteristics as the nose. We especially enjoy the lovely and prominent spice throughout. A bit chewy, it is still rather young at this point and has plenty of development ahead, but it’s so darn delicious already it’ll be heard to let these bottles age.
It ends dry, very long and spicy on the satisfying finish. It was just as good on day 2. Fantastic!
