The newly released 2023 vintage on offer here today doesn’t have any outside scores yet, but past vintages have been as high as 98! We put it at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points.
Consisting of 80% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, the wine was aged in a combination of new, 1-time use and neutral French and American oak for over 2 years (26 months). Just a tiny 359 cases were produced.
Owner/winegrower Tom Meadowcroft has spent decades managing some of the top vineyard sites in Napa and Sonoma for big names like Cakebread, Opus One, Stags Leap and more.
Combine those top notch grapes with the experience of winemaker Petar Kirilov (who used to work with Clark Smith and you may recognize from some of our excellent deals on his Kukeri label) and you definitely have a winning combination.
Of course, a small production wine like this doesn’t come cheap, with a normal price of $52 for one bottle. For the next day we’re slashing that price by 60%! You know what to do…

Summer 2026 Shipping Info
Shipping is a flat $9.99 per order, no matter how many packs you buy. This applies to both Summer Shipments AND Summer Holds. Summer Shipments also have an additional charge built into the product price for the heat protection package. Here’s how it works:
Summer Ship (+$8 for the Heat Protection Package) – Packages ship in styrofoam and use refrigerated shipping. This includes refrigerated trucks to local hubs for the South, Midwest and East Coast and internal refrigeration (ice packs) in boxes for the West Coast (AZ, CA, ID, NV, OR, WA). Final delivery will be on regular UPS trucks without refrigeration (just like last year), thus the reason for the styrofoam.
Note that unlike last year, packages will not go 2-day air as the refrigerated trucks are a better option, however this will add additional transit time. Trucks will only pick up from our shipper once per week so with our normal order processing time of up to 10 days before orders are sent out, packages will likely take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to arrive in-home.
These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.
Summer Hold – Buy your wine now and have your shipment held in a temperature controlled warehouse for delivery in October! While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).
Please note this is not a “ship-at-will” program, all your summer hold orders will ship (in cardboard/no styrofoam) at a date of our choosing in mid-October once temperatures have cooled down. Please read this post for important info to determine if the Summer Hold program is right for you.

2023 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM
TASTING NOTES The 2023 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM is a bold yet approachable Rhône-style blend of 10% Grenache, 80% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. Aromas of toasty oak, blackberry, blueberry, and vanilla rise from the glass with inviting warmth. On the palate, flavors of plum, blueberry, and dark black fruit unfold alongside subtle smoky notes and hints of dark chocolate. Medium-soft tannins and a smooth, lingering mouthfeel create a balanced and satisfying finish.
SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS This Syrah-driven GSM pairs beautifully with smoky, savory dishes and grilled meats. Enjoy it with grilled tri-tip and rosemary potatoes, slow-smoked barbecue ribs, or lamb burgers topped with caramelized onions and blue cheese. The wine also complements wild mushroom risotto, roasted portobello flatbread, or aged cheeses like Gouda and Manchego.

And now on to our review:
The 2023 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre) opens with a very expressive and inviting aroma loaded with delectable dark fruit plus plenty of licorice, vanilla, cedar, cola, a little coffee, baking spice and more. It also has a bit more Syrah than the 2022 and it shows in the meaty note on the nose. It’s a great start.
Taking a sip of the wine reveals it to be smooth, dense and full of flavor with similar characteristics as the nose. We especially enjoy the lovely spice throughout. It also has a wonderful savory streak to go along with the ripe, tart and juicy fruit. A bit chewy, it is still rather young at this point and has plenty of development ahead, but it’s so darn delicious already it’ll be heard to let these bottles age.
It ends dry, juicy, very long and very satisfying on the mouth-watering finish. It was just as good on day 2. We put this at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points. Fantastic!
