Consisting of 66% Syrah, 21% Grenache and 13% Mourvedre, the wine was aged in a combination of new, 1-time use and neutral French and American oak for 2 years (24 months). Just a tiny 281 cases were produced.
Owner/winegrower Tom Meadowcroft has spent decades managing some of the top vineyard sites in Napa and Sonoma for big names like Cakebread, Opus One, Stags Leap and more.

The 2022 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM — a Rhône-style blend of 66% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 13% Mourvèdre — offers a richly layered expression of fruit and spice. Aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, toasty oak, allspice, fruit compote, and cherry cordial rise from the glass. On the palate, concentrated flavors of black cherry, fig, and Italian plum unfold with depth, accented by subtle hints of tobacco. A silky mouthfeel leads into a long, satisfying finish, supported by refined tannins and a graceful structure.
SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS: This expressive GSM pairs beautifully with dishes that highlight earthy flavors and bold seasoning. Try it with slow-braised lamb shanks with rosemary and garlic, wild mushroom and sausage pizza, or duck breast with cherry reduction. A rich lentil and smoked paprika stew also complements the wine’s spice and fruitforward character.

And now on to our review:
The 2022 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre) opens with a very expressive and inviting aroma loaded with delectable spicy dark fruit plus plenty of licorice, vanilla, cedar, cola, a little coffee and more. It’s a great start.
Taking a sip of the wine reveals it to be smooth, dense and full of flavor with similar characteristics as the nose. We especially enjoy the lovely spice throughout. This vintage also has a wonderful savory streak that we didn’t pick up on in the last vintage. A bit chewy, it is still rather young at this point and has plenty of development ahead, but it’s so darn delicious already it’ll be heard to let these bottles age.
It ends dry, very long and mouth-watering on the satisfying finish. It was just as good and savory on day 2. Fantastic!

I loved this 2022 Meadowcroft River Trace GSM. It was so flavorful and welcome change to our more frequent cabs. I will watch for this to become available again and will snatch some up again for sure.
