The Speedy Creek Vineyard, which sits in the mountains above Knights Valley, is one such spot.
The Knights Valley AVA as a whole sits on the edge of Mount Saint Helena and neighbors Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill (Russian River Valley), Napa and Lake County. This is some prestigious territory. It’s also the warmest appellation in Sonoma.
The elevation at Speedy Creek Vineyard, however, results in cool summer nights and thus large temperature shifts which is ideal for growing flavorful grapes.
Combine these top notch grapes with the experience of winemaker Petar Kirilov (who used to work with Clark Smith and who you may remember from some of our excellent deals on his own Kukeri label) and you once again have a truly winning combination in this remarkable wine.

Meadowcroft Wines are award winning, small production reserve wines from our estate vineyard on Mt. Veeder and select single vineyard bottling from Napa, Sonoma, and appellations in California.
TASTING NOTES: The bucolic Knight’s Valley AVA is nestled to the eastern edges of Alexander Valley and Chalk Hill regions. The 2021 Sangiovese from the Speedy Creek Vineyard is an excellent representation of this noble varietal from Tuscany. On the nose, aromas of ripe red and black fruits with subtle notes of anise flow from the glass. Flavors of dark cherry, black currant, vanilla, and black pepper please the palate. Drink now through 2027.
SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRING: Classic dishes to enjoy with Sangiovese include wood fired pizzas or pasta with rich tomato sauces. Mushrooms have a particular affinity for this varietal. A creamy mushroom risotto will make this wine shine at the dinner table.

The 2021 Meadowcroft Speedy Creek Vineyard Knights Valley Sangiovese opens with a strong, very harmonious aroma of black cherry, blueberry, cedar, licorice, spice, vanilla and more. I absolutely love it.
Taking a sip reveals lots of juicy fruit wrapped up in a soft, smooth mouthfeel with all those same touches from the nose making an appearance in a very harmonious and balanced way. This is the definition of yummy. It’s also an excellent example of Sangiovese with a lot of the traditional characteristics.
It ends with a dry, long, dynamic, juicy, grippy, lovely and truly fantastic finish! It was just as good and vibrant on day 2.
And while it’s wonderful on its own, it also goes fabulously with Italian foods. We’re having a hard time imagining anyone not loving this wine.
