Medici Ermete Quercioli Reggiano Lambrusco Review

Bubbly, crisp and satisfying, we review the Medici Ermete Quercioli Reggiano Lambrusco DOC.

Medici Ermete Quercioli Reggiano Lambrusco Review

50% Marani and 50% Salamino red sparkling wine primarily from the organic Quercioli estate vineyard in the Lambrusco Reggiano appellation of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

The wine is produced using the Charmat method where a secondary fermentation occurs in large tanks in order to produce the delicious bubbles. It has 15 g/L of residual sugar and acidity of 7.5 g/L.

If you haven’t checked out red sparkling wines in a while, Lambrusco is a great place to start. With many of the modern examples steering away from the sugary sweet slop of yesteryear, there is a lot to explore and like here.

Sample submitted for review. The Medici Ermete Quercioli Reggiano Lambrusco is available for right around $12. It is imported by Kobrand.

From the winery:

Medici’s ‘Quercioli’ Lambrusco secco (dry) is a sparkling red wine sourced primarily from the estate’s organically farmed ‘Quercioli’ vineyard outside of the city of Reggio Emilia in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region. The yields of these estate Lambrusco vines are restricted for quality. A blend of 50% Marani and 50% Salamino, this wine captures best of both grapes. The intense aromatics and structure of Salamino are blended with the fresh acidity of Marani, making these wines perfectly balanced. The wine is best served at a temperature of 47 – 49 degrees Fahrenheit and should be consumed within two years of age.

The Medici Ermete winery is a certified sustainable winery by the Equalitas standard and the Quercioli wines are certified carbon neutral by Climate Partner.

TASTING NOTE: Bright ruby red in color, the wine has a distinct violet scent. Dry yet fruity with fresh, pleasantly harmonious flavors and a lively effervescence.

11% Alcohol

The non-vintage Medici Ermete Quercioli Reggiano Lambrusco DOC opens with a pleasing aroma of strawberry and syrupy blackberries with a touch of herbs and a floral note. Swirling also releases a bit of pomegranate. It’s a nice start.

The wine tastes lightly bubbly and quite satisfying with similar flavors to the nose. It’s not too sweet with a nice crispness to it and also features a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.

It ends dry and a bit chalky on the finish.
