The Livermore Valley, just to the east of Oakland and San Francisco, may not be an area you hear much about, but it has a vibrant wine scene. It’s one of my go to spots for great Petite Sirah and today’s red blend does indeed lead with that varietal.
The 2013 Murrieta’s Well The Spur Red Blend begins with an exquisite aroma of black cherry, blackberry, spice and vanilla. Tasting the medium to full-bodied wine reveals it to be smooth and full of delicious jammy dark fruit along with plenty of vanilla and spice from the well-spent time in oak. Leather, licorice and chocolate lead into the slightly chewy, dry and long finish.
