A crowd-pleasing Cab at a super low Costco price, we review the Pyramid Scheme Cabernet Sauvignon from Precision Wine Co.
85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petite Sirah from California. The wine was aged in 75% French and 25% American oak.
The Pyramid Scheme Cabernet Sauvignon has an SRP of $20 but we found it for just $7.99 at Costco. The average price elsewhere is closer to $13.
From the winery:
Find layered aromas and flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, black cherry, coffee, nutmeg, cumin and clove, and gamy meat just on the back-breath. Smooth tannins dissipate slowly throughout the length of the tasting; an elevated acidity gives the fruit notes a sense of vivacity. The finish is lingering.

The nose on the 2021 Pyramid Scheme Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with jammy ripe dark berry fruit and plenty of baking spice plus notes of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, licorice and more.
The wine tastes similar to the nose with the fruit being a bit juicy in the mouth. The oak influence is very evident as is a touch of residual sugar. Easy to drink, this has plenty of mass appeal.
It ends mostly dry and with good length. It was similar on day 2. For $7.99 this is good deal, but we would definitely pass at the SRP of $20. Even at the wine-searcher average of $13 it just sneaks by with a recommended rating so if you’re paying that price you can probably find better.
