A fresh and simple find at Trader Joe’s for just $6.99, we review the House of Mandela Sauvignon Blanc Thembu Tribute.
Sauvignon Blanc from Western Cape, South Africa.
This wine is available exclusively in the US at Trader Joe’s and sells for just $6.99. It is imported by D’Aquino Italian Importing Co.
Produced by the family of Nelson Mandela, this wine is a negociant brand, meaning the wines are sourced from various vineyards across South Africa. A staple at Trader Joe’s for a few years now, let’s check out how it tastes.
From the bottle:
Our wines find their inspiration in the Thembu Clan – noble, respected, trusted. People with a deep appreciation of nature and their land. These attributes, alongside a tradition of warmth and conviviality, are embodied in our delightfully accessible Thembu Collection – an inspired choice.
Lashings of luminous tropical fruit with fragrant lemongrass undertones lead the palate to a zingy mouth-watering finish.

The 2023 House of Mandela Sauvignon Blanc opens with a fresh and simple aroma of lemon, lime and a little grassiness.
Tasting the wine reveals a smooth mouthfeel and similar flavors to the nose that are a bit zesty in the mouth. It’s definitely on the simple side of things, but it is still tasty. That said, it’s nothing compared to the Kirkland Signature Ti Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at virtually the same price, but if you’re in a pinch this one will work.
It ends dry and crisp on the medium length finish.
