The 2017 Spicewood Tempranillo begins with a pleasing aroma of ripe plum, blackberry and cherry plus licorice, black pepper and a little chocolate.

The wine tastes spicy, a bit tannic and quite good. In the mouth you’ll find more cherry and dark fruit plus licorice, touches of vanilla, mint, chocolate and more. This is really delicious and exactly what you’d expect from a Tempranillo with some significant time in oak. It’s an excellent example of the variety. I think this has some nice aging potential too.

It ends dry and quite long and really benefits from some air so give it plenty of time to breathe as it just keeps getting better. Wow, who knew Texas could produce something like this?
