Welcome back to our Insider Deals!
We're starting off our new round of offers with a bang, the Windrun Sta Rita Hills Clone 2A Pinot Noir from the near perfect 2014 vintage in the Santa Rita Hills, Santa Ynez Valley, Central Coast of California.
This wine was barrel aged for nine months in 40% new French oak and only 733 cases were produced. On top of all this, the wine is made by the renowned Ken Brown, who has been producing excellent Pinot Noir in the Central Coast since the 1970s!
Let's face it, good Pinot Noir is expensive. It's one of the very hardest varieties to find quality examples under our $20 price point.
This is exactly why we're delighted to bring you an exclusive, winery direct Insider Deal on an excellent, small production example of this variety thanks to our partners at Wine Country Connect (the folks behind Wine.Woot). Read on for more about this tremendous wine...
This is a limited time, winery direct offer. Sale ends Monday September 9 at noon (PST) or until it sells out. Shipping is a flat $5 no matter how many packs you buy! Clicking on the buy button above will take you to the site winedealmaker.com for checkout. If you don't see the embedded buy box click here to order.
Please note our last offer sold out in less than 2 days! We've secured as big of an allotment as we could get of today's wine but given the limited quantities we don't expect this one to last long either.
The Windrun Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a wine that we have enjoyed and reviewed multiple times on the site, most recently the 2015 vintage, which we called a "near perfect Saturday Splurge".
And that's the amazing thing. Even at the normal price of $33, we've been more than happy to recommend multiple vintages of this wine as a Saturday Splurge. (This is not something we do often.)
Today, through our Insider Deal, we're overjoyed to offer it at a price less than $20! In fact, Reverse Wine Snob readers can pick up 3 bottles for $54.99 (just $18.33 per bottle) plus only $5 for shipping! This is a savings of $61 (50%!) factoring in normal shipping costs!
From the bottle:
Sta. Rita Hills is a coastal appellation at the western end of the Santa Ynez Valley. The appellation has earned acclaim for its Pinot Noir due to the warm days and cool, foggy nights that provide ideal growing conditions for this varietal. The wine comes from one of the oldest north-facing vineyards in the area and exhibits the beautiful complex character of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir.
The near-perfect 2014 vintage is reflected in this Pinot Noir with its classic dark blackberry and cherry fruit core with hints of brown spice and earthiness. A full-bodied palate with a long, savory finish makes the wine a perfect complement to many hearty dishes.
This limited production wine of very high quality is typical of the care Windrun takes to select the best wines from the finest coastal vineyards.
14.5% Alcohol
The 2014 Windrun Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir begins with enticing aromas of black cherry, cola, licorice and nice touches of baking spice and mint. Sniff it long enough and you'll also get hints of tobacco and earth.
The wine does need a bit of time to open up but once it does, it's fantastic. Waves of flavor greet you when tasting. First up are the red fruits which quickly build into darker fruits. After that comes the licorice and earthiness which is then followed by touches of tobacco. Smooth, dry and savory, this is prime Pinot! It ends long and grippy with lots of lingering cola notes.
This is an absolutely splurge-worthy wine that we're overjoyed to offer to our readers at such a low price.
FYI, in order to preserve its flavor the wine was not fined so there may be some tartrate crystals near the bottom of the bottle. This is completely harmless (and a sign of a quality wine), you may just want to take care in pouring out the last glass or run it through a filter.
Lastly, if you've got the willpower to make it last and you like to plan ahead, this wine has had a spot on our list of recommended wines for Thanksgiving for several years.
