Trader Joe's Grand Reserve Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Lot 116 Review

Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley, California.

This wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and sells for $12.99.

From Trader Joe’s:

This 2021 vintage of Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Dry Creek Sonoma Valley Zinfandel is an archetype of California Zin. It’s big and bold, with deep, black fruit aromas. The fruit-forward flavor includes prominent notes of black cherry, plus hints of baking spices and chocolate. Aging in American oak brings another layer of depth, and at 15% ABV, this is a strong wine in every regard. Pair this one with big flavors to match the wine’s intensity. Bring this TJ’s Zin to a BBQ where sauce-slathered ribs or blackened salmon is on the menu.

Vinted and Bottled by Isolated Cellars
15% Alcohol

The 2021 Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Lot 116 opens with pleasing and harmonious aroma of black cherry and other dark fruit, licorice, spice, hints of vanilla and chocolate. It’s also a bit brambly just like a good Zin should be.

It only takes one sip to know this is a really nice example of Zin with good structure and good depth on the fruit. It features similar flavors to the nose, but is quite cohesive in the mouth. It’s a big wine, but not overly so, although you can certainly tell it has 15% alcohol. As you would expect, it’s a great match for BBQ ribs or a cheeseburger (Labor Day is coming after all)

It ends dry and with good length. This is an excellent value although it’s not quite as good on day 2 so drink up.

With more structure and depth, and a little less sweetness, this Grand Reserve is also definitely a step up from the Trader Joe’s Reserve Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel which we previously reviewed and gave a Taste Rating of 7.
