We’re well acquainted with private label Rutherford Cabernets here at Reverse Wine Snob, having tasted the Kirkland Signature Rutherford offering from Costco, the Member’s Mark Rutherford from Sam’s Club and the Platinum Reserve Rutherford and Rutherford Lane bottles at Trader Joe’s recently.
Today we check out yet another from Trader Joe’s. The Grand Reserve label is a step down from the Platinum Reserve version and it sells for a couple dollars less at $12.99.

The 2019 Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 102 opens with aromas of ripe, sweet smelling berry fruit plus a little chocolate and spice.
The first sip reveals some sweet fruit and a rather simple wine. I was not impressed upon the first pop and pour but I have to say that this one definitely grew on me after it had a couple hours of air. It’s still a bit simple and sweet but good enough for the price, although definitely not as good as the Platinum version.
Where the wine really redeems itself; however, is the excellent finish. It ends dry and juicy with little spice on the very long finish that also features a touch of chalkiness.
