You can’t get much cheaper than this when it comes to Pinot Noir! We check out whether it is worth the tiny price tag with our review of the Motif Monterey County Pinot Noir from Trader Joe’s.
Pinot Noir from Monterey County, California.
Available for just $4.99, you don’t often see Pinot Noir this cheap! And when you do, it is often undrinkable. So it was with a little bit of trepidation that we picked this one up at Trader Joe’s. Let’s check it out…
From the bottle:
Monterey County
Food Pairing: Pork, Salmon, and Mushroom Risotto
Tasting Notes: Cherry, Raspberry, Spice & Silky TanninsVinted & Bottled by Motif Wines
14.5% Alcohol
The 2023 Motif Monterey County Pinot Noir doesn’t offer much in terms of aromas on the nose, but what is there is decent. It’s mostly cranberry and black cherry with a little cola and a touch of earthy tomato plant note.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be thin as you would expect but yet there’s just enough there (and what is there is varietally correct) that it’s worth the low cost. Smooth and juicy, it features similar flavors to the nose.
It ends dry and juicy on the medium length finish and was similar on day 2. I wouldn’t want to spend much more than $4.99 for this one, but it is worth that cost.
