Another day another Platinum Reserve wine from Paso Robles. We review the 2023 Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Cabernet Franc Lot 120.
Cabernet Franc from Paso Robles, California.
Today we’re looking at a Cabernet Franc that comes from a different source than the Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon we just recently reviewed. We thought that wine was a stellar find, let’s see how this one measures up.
The wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and like all of the Platinum Reserve level wines is priced at $14.99.
From the bottle:
Lot #120
Paso RoblesProduced and Bottled by Barrel 27 Wine Company, Inc.
14.2% Alcohol
Barrel 27 Wine Company was started by winemakers Russell From and McPrice Myers. (From is winemaker for Herman Story wines and McPrice is the winemaker for McPrice Meyers wines and interestingly is a former Trader Joe’s store manager.)
The 2023 Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Cabernet Franc Lot #120 opens with an attractive aroma of dark fruit, spice, herbal notes and more.
The wine needs a couple of hours to open up but we then found it to be quite true to the variety. Smooth with a touch of a green note in the mouth, it features similar flavors to the nose. It’s not very complex, but it is pretty easy to drink and has some character.
It ends a bit grippy and with good length on the dry finish. We didn’t find it to be as good on day 2, so drink up the day you open it!
