Trader Joe's Reserve Medoc Grand Vin de Bordeaux Lot 275 Review

There is little info available on the wine but it is likely primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of other traditional Bordeaux varieties from the Medoc district of Bordeaux, France.

Available for $9.99, exclusively at Trader Joe’s.

The Left Bank appellation of Medoc is home to some of the most prestigious areas in the entire Bordeaux region, areas like Pauillac, Saint Julien and Margaux. Today’s wine doesn’t wear one of those fancy village names, which means it is just from the wider area. We’ve had a string of nice Bordeaux wines from Trader Joe’s (and Costco) lately so let’s check this one out.

From the bottle:

Mis En Bouteille Par MJ A F33760
Imported by Latitude Wines

14% Alcohol

The 2023 Trader Joe’s Reserve Medoc Lot #275 opens with lots of dark fruit aromas plus some menthol and a little cedar and spice. It gains harmony with time in the glass so let it breathe.

We honestly didn’t think much of this one at first pop and pour but after a few hours this turned into a lovely little wine for the price. It features a smooth and chalky mouthfeel but it is also full of juicy, concentrated dark fruit plus other touches that are similar to the nose. It’s quite tannic right now but that should resolve in time.

It ends dry, chewy and long. If you don’t like a lot of tannins in your wine this probably isn’t for you, at least in its current form, but if you enjoy tannic wines this will be right up your alley. The tannins did smooth out just a bit on day 2, but it was still rather tannic and similar to day 1.
