Kirkland Signature Margaux Review

Last Updated on February 26, 2026

Another big name Bordeaux at a bargain price thanks to Costco. We review the new 2023 Kirkland Signature Margaux.

Kirkland Signature Margaux Review

Likely to be predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaux in the Haut-Médoc district in the Left Bank of Bordeaux, France. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carmenère, Petit Verdot and Malbec are also allowed but Costco doesn’t disclose the blend.

When we say big name Bordeaux, we mean it. Margaux is renowned for its gravel soils and high concentration of Cru level properties. Needless to say, the prices reflect this renown.

As such, Costco retailing this wine at just $19.99 is pretty impressive.

And lucky for us, unlike a lot of the Kirkland Signature wines, the provenance of this one is readily apparent.

2023 Kirkland Signature Margaux cork

As is proudly displayed on the cork, the Kirkland Signature Margaux from Costco comes from Henri Lurton of Château Brane-Cantenac. The unique gold color on the label also seems to be a nod to that fact as the Chateau uses a similar gold color on their logo and some of their labels.

As to whether this wine is the exact same as any of their others, we can’t say. If anything I would guess it is similar to the Le Baron de Brane that retails for around $30-$35. That wine is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 1% Carmenere, and 1% Petit Verdot.

Unfortunately Costco gives us very little info to go on, but let’s check it out, shall we?

2023 Kirkland Signature MARGAUX
Appellation Margaux Contrôlée

Located in Bordeaux’s Médoc region on the Left Bank, Margaux’s gravel soils and Atlantic influence help create wines of finesse and elegance. The Kirkland Signature Margaux 2023 presents aromas of blackcurrant, plum, violet, cedar, tobacco and spice. Its velvety texture and integrated tannins lead to a long, refined finish with dark fruit and earthy notes. Decant to enjoy its full expression or cellar it for added complexity.

2023 Kirkland Signature Margaux Back Label

The 2023 Kirkland Signature Margaux opens with an attractive aroma of dark berry fruit, cedar, and a little spice. It’s a touch oaky at first pop and pour, no surprise given its youth, but licorice, tobacco and floral notes also emerge with time in the glass. It’s a nice start.

Taking a sip reveals juicy fruit with similar flavors to the nose plus dusty tannins and good acidity, balance and structure. This is quite nice with good depth.

It ends dry, just a bit tannic and long and it was even a bit better and longer on day 2. It certainly won’t be confused with the best of the region but you also won’t have to pay an arm and leg for it. This is delicious for the price!
