Well, here’s an interesting find. You don’t typically see sparkling wines made from Sauvignon Blanc although I’m not sure why after tasting this one. It offers quite a nice change up from traditional sparkling wines and also opens up some interesting food pairing possibilities.
The 2016 Villa Maria Bubbly Sauvignon Blanc begins with pretty classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc aromas. There’s lots of melon, lemongrass, lime and a little grapefruit. Tasting the wine reveals it to be slightly bubbly, a bit grassy and loaded with lime flavors. With great freshness, good acidity and a bit of sweetness it’s a good match for seafood although we’re guessing it could be even better with fried chicken! A light and refreshing drink, this one offers a delicious twist on Sauvignon Blanc with the addition of the bubbles.
