Wittenberg Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon From Trader Joe's

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Wittenberg Vineyard in Yakima Valley, Washington State. The wine is aged in American oak and has just 2.62 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for priority review. Sponsored by Precept Wine.

Just like the Sunshine Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir that we reviewed a few weeks ago, today’s wine comes from the Northwest Collective label produced by Precept Wines and available exclusively at Trader Joe’s. It is priced at just $9.99 which seems pretty incredible for a single vineyard wine from this area. Let’s check it out.

From the winery:

Deep ruby in color, this Wittenberg Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with inviting aromas of cedar and ripe dark fruit. The palate is layered with savory tones, unfolding blackberry and plum flavors. Silky, well-rounded tannins lend balance and structure, leading to a long, refined finish. Pair with Unexpected Cheddar Cheese, grilled ribeye, or Cocoa Truffles.

2022 Northwest Collective Wittenberg Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon side label

The 2022 Northwest Collective Wittenberg Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a lots of jammy, dark berry fruit plus vanilla, cedar and some oaky spice. It’s a nice start.

The wine tastes smooth and a bit tannic and features similar flavors to the nose with more jammy, ripe fruit in the mouth. It keeps getting better as it breathes so don’t be shy about giving it some air. It tastes to me like it could have a bit more residual sugar than it does (just 2.62 g/L) so it doesn’t come off as too dry. This is likely to be a crowd-pleaser.

It ends dry, grippy, chewy and quite long on the finish and was similar on day 2.
