Capcanes Mas Picosa de Flor en Flor - Dry and Sweet

By: Jon Thorsen Published: February 1, 2020 Last Updated: May 30, 2021

A fresh, juicy and fruity wine from Montsant, the Capcanes Mas Picosa de Flor en Flor.

Capcanes Mas Picosa de Flor en Flor - Dry and Sweet

A red blend of organically grown grapes including 30% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Tempranillo and 5% Carignan from Montsant, Catalonia, Spain. The wine was aged 5 months in stainless steel and has less than 2 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for review. The Capcanes Mas Picosa de Flor en Flor has an SRP of $16 and is available for as low as $12. 60,000 bottles produced. Imported by Europvin.

    From the bottle:

Capcanes is a tiny Catalan village tucked away in the hills south Barcelona where wines have been cultivated for centuries. Some of our growers chose during 2006, to follow an organic regime. Mas Picosa, juicy vibrant fruit gives way to a bright fresh finish, evoking all the character of our region.

    14.5% Alcohol

The 2018 Capcanes Mas Picosa de Flor en Flor is made up of an unusual but surprisingly delicious blend of grapes. It begins with a pleasing aroma of black cherry, strawberry, a little earthiness and just a hint of spice.

Tasting the medium-bodied wine reveals it to be very fresh and full of juicy, concentrated fruit interlaced with spice and a little earth. Add in a smooth mouthfeel and soft tannins and this is really quite tasty. It ends dry, very long and grippy with lots of lingering tart, juicy fruit. Yum!

This is also a really nice wine for lovers of sweet wines to try and get into something with less residual sugar -- it tastes sweeter than it actually is because it has so much fruit.
