The 2017 Cecchi Chianti opens with a really attractive aroma of fresh berry fruit with a little spice and a hint of mint. Tasting the medium-bodied wine reveals a really good basic Chianti. This is a perfect wine to have on hand to pair with pizza and other Italian dishes. It's nothing fancy, it's just darn good. It features a smooth and soft mouthfeel, lots of juicy berry fruit and light touches of well-integrated spice. It ends dry and long with lingering fresh, tart fruit plus touches of spice and just a hint of earthiness.
This is exactly the way Chianti should be (not Classico or Riserva but just plain old Chianti) and that's a very good thing. You don't always need all the fancy names and adjectives, especially when you're looking for an inexpensive wine to pair with your $10 pizza!
