An excellent example of cru Beaujolais, we review the Chateau des Jacques Moulin-A-Vent.
100% Gamay from 8 different sites in the Moulin-A-Vent AOC in the Beaujolais region of France. The wine is aged in oak casks, 50% new, for 10 months.
Sample submitted for review. The Chateau des Jacques Moulin-A-Vent has an SRP of $34 and is available for as low as $20 but more typically in the mid-$20s. It is imported by Kobrand Corporation.
From the winery:
Once a place to rest along the pilgrims’ route to Santiago de Compostela, Chateau des Jacques was purchased by Maison Louis Jadot in 1996 and is today a beautiful property including famous vineyards mainly in Moulin-A-Vent, Morgon and Fleurie.
13.5% Alcohol
The 2020 Chateau des Jacques Moulin-A-Vent opens with pleasing aromas of plum, black cherry, strawberry and blood orange with a little coffee and a bit of a funky note. There are a lot of good things going on and even more comes out with time in the glass, like touches of licorice and spice.
The medium to full-bodied wine tastes very smooth and plush and features similar flavors to the nose with lots of additional secondary notes including black tea and more. With good structure and acidity, this is a great example of cru Beaujolais.
It ends dry, long and juicy and was just as good on day 2.
