Made from gently pressed Grenache grapes in the classic Old World style, the 2022 Rosé presents a pretty pale flamingo hue with scintillating aromas of fresh strawberry, guava, crème brûlée and honeysuckle. Subtle hyacinth and ginger notes are accompanied by cranberry, rhubarb, cherry blossom and lemon meringue. The palate is exquisitely balanced, displaying a lush, crisp juiciness with flavors of ripe strawberry, papaya, nectarine and mandarin orange. Hints of spiced peach, mango and watermelon are complemented by red delicious apple, kiwi, apricot and honeydew melon, all cascading into a clean, refreshing finish.
THE VINTAGE: DAOU wines represent our passion for approachable luxury. Winemaker Daniel Daou has cultivated deep connections with select Paso Robles growers for numerous vintages, allowing him to maintain absolute quality and consistency. The 2022 growing season was initially marked by winter drought conditions that were alleviated by rains in late March and April—a miracle happenstance that replenished the soils and set the pace for healthy vine canopies to come. A later-than-usual bud break was followed by normal spring and summer weather patterns through August. Finally, a September heat wave prompted an early harvest that put Daniel’s ingenuity, artistry and experience to the test. In the end, 2022 was a winemaker’s vintage, yielding elegantly flavorful and balanced wines that prove the importance of mastering grape growing and winemaking.

And now on to our review:
The 2022 DAOU Discovery Collection Paso Robles Rosé begins with a very pleasant and attractive aroma of peach, melon, watermelon, lemon zest, strawberry, a hint of bubblegum and touches of sea salt and tropical fruit.
Taking a sip reveals a smooth, lovely, round, tasty and balanced light to medium-bodied rosé featuring similar flavors to the nose that are a bit tarter and tangier in the mouth. There are also touches of tropical fruit and the mineral notes from the nose are a bit broader than just sea salt when tasting. Very refreshing and with great complexity, depth and structure, this is a fantastic example of rosé.
It ends dry, long, fresh and satisfying. This definitely lives up to the hype!
