DAOU Discovery Collection wines represent our passion for approachable luxury. Winemaker Daniel Daou has cultivated deep connections with select Paso Robles growers for numerous vintages, allowing him to maintain absolute quality and consistency. The 2021 growing season was preceded by a dry winter, with only one large storm system that provided considerable rainfall in February. A period of light rain in July also replenished the soil with much-needed moisture. While the summer season was marked by periodic heat waves, the weather cooled down by mid August and remained that way through harvest. This cooling trend allowed the fruit to enjoy exceptional hang time. In the end, low yields and small berries provided wines with fine balance and vivid varietal flavors.
Made from Grenache grapes in the classic Provençale style, the 2021 Rosé of Grenache presents a pale flamingo-apricot hue and a fragrant, floral nose. Aromas of freshly sliced peaches, hibiscus and hyacinth reveal accents of nectarine and orange zest. Hints of honeysuckle, orange blossom, crushed rose petal and pineapple round out the enticing bouquet. The palate is exceptionally clean and refreshing, with flavors of peach, mango, apricot, and honeydew melon accompanied by notes of lemon chiffon, apricot, papaya and kiwi. A long, luxuriant finish lingers with juicy essences of peach, strawberry and cherry.

The 2021 DAOU Discovery Collection Paso Robles Rosé begins with a very pleasant and attractive aroma of peach, melon, watermelon, lemon zest, strawberry, a hint of bubblegum and a touch of sea salt.
Taking a sip reveals a smooth, round, tasty and balanced light to medium-bodied rosé featuring similar flavors to the nose that are a bit tarter and tangier in the mouth. There are also touches of tropical fruit and the mineral notes from the nose are a bit broader than just sea salt when tasting. With good depth and structure, this is a fantastic example of rosé.
It ends dry, long, fresh, satisfying and even a bit chewy. This definitely lives up to the hype!
