Wines of distinction have been crafted at Colomé in the Upper Calchaqui Valley in the Salta region since 1831. Torrontés is Argentina's flagship native white grape, which reaches its highest expression in this region. This area has a special micro-climate of great thermal amplitude and intense solar exposure where vineyeards grow at altitudes between 1700 and 3100 metres above sea level.
Due to these conditions, grapes develop a unique aromatic expression and are made into fresh wines of great acidity. Grapes are grown at our La Brava vineyard estate at 1700 metres, which is considered the best altitude for this variety.
Torrontés offers the floral notes of roses, the citrus aroma of grapefruit and a spicy hint. In the mouth it is fresh, round and well-bodied with a long, elegant finish.
13.5% Alcohol
The 2018 Colomé Torrontés begins with loads of melon aromas on the nose along with citrus, peach, and some light tropical fruit and floral notes. Tasting reveals a lively mouthfeel along with lots of fresh, crisp fruit flavors that turn quite tart in the mouth. There's more melon and peach but lots of tropical fruit flavors as well. It ends with a long finish of lingering juicy fruit and even a bit of salty minerality.
Very refreshing and much more interesting than your average white wine at this price point, it will also pair well with lots of different foods. It was a great match for our grilled chicken with mint, red onion, and lemon and rosemary dijon mustard potatoes. It's been 8 vintages since we last reviewed this wine and it's still great, two thumbs up for this bottle!
