Giretto Pinot Grigio - A Sweet Tart

By: Jon Thorsen Published: July 13, 2021 Last Updated: January 25, 2023

A tart and tasty $5.99 porch pounder from Aldi, the Giretto Pinot Grigio.

Giretto Pinot Grigio - A Sweet Tart

Pinot Grigio from Delle Venezie DOC, Italy.

The Giretto Pinot Grigio is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for just $5.99. It is imported by Broadland Drinks.

    From the bottle:

Strap the picnic basket to the back of your bike. Take a ride down the winding paths of Italy's countryside. Pedal down the gravel road to the perfect spot hidden by the shade of a tree. Steal away a hot summer afternoon. Vita semplice. (Live simply).

Aromas of pear, apple and yellow plum with crisp fruit salad flavors and a hint of spice. Perfect served chilled just by itself, or with shellfish, salads and soft cheeses.

    12% Alcohol

The 2019 Giretto Pinot Grigio begins with a very pleasing aroma of pear, citrus and melon along with a little stony minerality and a hint of nuttiness.

Taking a sip reveals surprising depth of flavor with tons of green apple, lime and touches of tropical fruit in this tart and tasty wine. And while there's plenty of sweet tasting fruit, it's a fairly dry wine which isn't always common with Pinot Grigio at this low of a price point.

Touches of stony minerality return on the crisp, dry, medium-long finish. This is an ultra-refreshing porch pounder kind of wine but also has the versatility to pair nicely with seafood and salads.

Overall we found the wine to be pretty similar to the last time we reviewed it (the 2017) with perhaps a bit more nuttiness on the nose this time around.

Two of our biggest complaints about cheap Pinot Grigio are either that they are too sweet or just watered down and lifeless, this wine avoids both of those pitfalls quite deftly. Another one that punches above its price point from Aldi!

    OVERALL RATING: 7.8
