By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: October 11, 2019

Gunderloch Nierstein Riesling Trocken – Resplendent

100% Riesling from Nierstein, Rheinterrasse, Rheinhessen, Germany. Vinified 50% in stainless steel and 50% in oak barrel. The wine has just 1 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for review. The Gunderloch Nierstein Dry Riesling has an SRP of $30 and is available for as low as $19.99. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. A Rudi Wiest Selection imported by Cellars International.

From the winery:

According to the philosophy of the Hasselbach family, wine is created in the vineyards. Humans can only accompany the creation process and should intervene as little as possible. In their understanding it is never the right way to put their demands over the need of the vineyards. They try to find the right measures to help the vine to find its natural balance in the given circumstances of the growing season.

12% Alcohol

The 2015 Gunderloch Nierstein Riesling Trocken (Dry) begins with a very pleasing aromas of pear, orange, lime and lemon plus some mineral and floral notes along with touches of petrol. The wine tastes bone dry and quite delicious with a lively acidity, lots of tart, zesty fruit and plenty of minerality. Even though the wine has almost no sugar there are wonderful touches of honey throughout when tasting. It also has a great viscosity and mouthfeel that you just don’t find on lesser Riesling. It ends dry and long with tons of very long-lasting tart fruit. A resplendent Riesling!

Ready to buy? Check your local retailers.
