We were big fans on the Lava Cap Cabernet so let’s check this one out too!
From the bottle:
Lava Cap is a third-generation family farm located in the mountains at an elevation of 2700 feet. Our unique volcanic soils, weathered from ancient ash flows, produce wines that are intensely aromatic and luscious with deep, rich fruit erupting with flavor. The Steller’s Jay, indigenous to mountainous regions, represents the natural beauty of the area.

The 2023 Lava Cap Reserve Chardonnay opens with a fresh and pleasing aroma full of bright fruit – green apple, apricot and lemon plus a little honeysuckle and a touch of chalky note. It’s a great start.
Taking a sip reveals a juicy, complex Chardonnay with nicely integrated spice. The fruit is a bit more tangy and tropical in the mouth but is otherwise similar to the nose. It also features a layered mouthfeel with good depth.
It ends dry and juicy with just a touch of a vanilla, brown sugar and a lemon cream note on very long finish. The touch of a chalky note from the nose also returns and lingers. This is very nice!
