From Locations Wines:

A blend of Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, and Touriga Franca sourced primarily from the northern region of Douro, with the remainder coming from the Alentejo region to the south. The wild and rugged mountain region of Douro is cut off from the influences of the Atlantic by the Serra do Marão mountain range. These sheltered conditions combined with the sparse rainfall and steep rocky slopes enable the gnarled old vines to yield small amounts of concentrated berries which produce an amazingly rich, complex wine. By contrast, the gentle hills of the Alentejo and its many sub-regions, produce rich and fruity wines with a freshness and complexity derived from the warmer days, cooler nights and varying soil types. Blending the two regions and traditional varietals has enabled us to craft a harmonious wine with a magnitude of silky, rich layers, one worthy of carrying the Locations name.

The Locations P Portuguese Red Wine by Dave Phinney (this being the P4 designation) begins with a very inviting aroma although it does need an hour or so to really open up. Once it does, the bouquet is filled with dark berry fruit and spice. Tasting reveals a decadent wine with lots of rich fruit, tons of flavor and a smooth, pleasing mouthfeel. I wouldn’t necessarily peg it is as being from Portugal (probably because you don’t typically find fruit from the Douro and Alentejo blended together) but it is darn good. Some nice earthy streaks lead into the dry, lasting finish which also features touches of dark chocolate. This is tasty, excellent stuff as usual from Locations.
