Loosen Dr. L Riesling Dry – Tart and Zesty

By: Jon Thorsen Published: February 5, 2020 Last Updated: May 23, 2021

An excellent and inexpensive Riesling from the Mosel region in Germany, the Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling Dry.

Loosen Dr. L Riesling Dry – Tart and Zesty

100% Riesling from Mosel, Germany. The wine is produced 100% in stainless steel and has 9.1 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for review. The Loosen Dr. L Riesling Dry has an SRP of $15 and is available for as low as $10. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. Imported by Loosen Bros USA Ltd.

    From the bottle:

Dr. L dry embodies the elegant and racy style of Riesling from the slate-soil vineyards of the Mosel Valley. Its refreshingly crisp taste and dry style make it an excellent wine for sushi, shellfish, fresh oysters and grilled fresh fish.

    12% Alcohol

The 2018 Dr. L Riesling Dry begins with a very pleasing aroma of apple, pear, honeysuckle, some flinty minerality and just a touch of petrol. Tasting the wine reveals it to be tart with tons of honeyed fruit notes - apple, peach and citrus primarily. It also features racy acidity and a nice mouthfeel. It ends with a zesty, long finish of more fruit plus hints of minerality.

One thing to note is that even though this Riesling is labeled as dry is still tastes somewhat sweet at about 9 g/L of residual sugar. The sweetness levels of wine is one of the more confusing aspects in my opinion as the definitions of terms like dry can vary by region and can even be based on the acidity level of the wine. Many wines can also give the impression of tasting sweet (like this one we reviewed the other day) and have very little residual sugar. This is one reason we include the residual sugar levels in our reviews whenever they are available.

Ready to buy? Check your local retailers.
