Very little information is available on this wine but the back label reveals it is produced by Familia Nueva Vineyards in Paso Robles which makes sense since Paso is in San Luis Obispo County. Let’s check out how it tastes, shall we?
The 2021 Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve San Luis Obispo Syrah Lot #99 has quite an attractive aroma once it has time to breathe. Dark berry fruit, notes of mint and other dried herbs, a little cigar box and some other nice touches of licorice and black pepper all combine to create a decent amount of complexity. It’s a nice start.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth with decent depth and lots of juicy, dark berry fruit. It features similar flavors to the nose including the dried herb component. It also has good balance and acidity and just keeps on getting better the longer it is open.
It ends dry, long, juicy and satisfying and was just as good on day 2.
