A solid Portuguese red blend at a great Costco price, the Waterdog Reserva Red from José Maria da Fonseca.
A blend of 70% Castelao and 30% Touriga Nacional from Península de Setúbal in southern Portugal. The wine is aged 6 months in new oak and has around 8-9 g/L of residual sugar.
The Waterdog Reserva Red has an SRP of $18 but it sells for $7.99 at Costco and typically a bit more elsewhere. It is imported by Tri Vin Imports, Inc.

The 2020 Waterdog Reserva Red from José Maria da Fonseca opens with an attractive aroma of ripe dark berries plus touches of spice, cola and licorice.
You can definitely taste the residual sugar in this one but in addition to be being a bit sweet, it is very soft and easy to drink which is a profile that is quite popular. In the mouth it features more ripe dark berry fruit and continued nice touches of spice.
Even with the residual sugar it tastes mostly dry on the medium-long finish. If you like wines with a bit of sweetness this is a great one at the Costco price. We found it to be similar on day 2.
