This 100% Pinot Noir comes from the San Saba estate vineyard in Monterey, just below the Santa Lucia Highlands, and is made up of 60% clone 115 and 40% clone 667.

20% of the wine went through whole cluster fermentation and the whole thing was aged for 11 months in French oak (25% new) before being bottled and let to rest for another 12 months. Only 696 cases were produced.

Reminiscent of our previous Wrath deals, we’d put this in the same category as the KW Ranch Pinot Noir that also got a 10 (94-point) Taste Rating.

Wrath represents a nexus of nature and an unbridled passion for winemaking. Our production is small, our distribution is limited and our wines reveal attitude, passion, and an inherent respect for what a vineyard can give us.

Our wines are a record of the topography, geology and climate of a finite, naturally defined piece of land over the span of a growing season. They chronicle the elaborate dance between terroir, grape, people and time. While all of our wines possess strong varietal characteristics, their real strength is their ability to deliver the unique aromatics, flavors and textures of a specific site.

Our Estate San Saba Vineyard is set in a sheltered nook just below the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. This is a cool site with little rainfall and one of the longest growing seasons in the world.

Our soils, Arroyo Gravelly Loam and Hanford Gravely Sandy Loam, provide a low-vigor, well-draining, disease- and pest-free medium for our vines. They also impart a subtle mineral quality to our wines.

To preserve our local ecosystem, we have worked with viticultural consultant Steve McIntyre to develop a sustainable farming program, certified by the CCVT, tailored to our estate. In addition to protecting the local environment, we believe it allows us to produce wines that are more authentic and specific to our terroir.

Sourced from only estate grown grapes, vine yields are closely managed and average about 3.5 to 4 tons to the acre. Grapes are hand picked and hand sorted. Clones are kept in separate lots during fermentation and barrel aging. 20% of this wine went through whole cluster fermentation. Once fermented to dryness, lots are aged in an assortment of French oak barrels from various tonnelleries (for added complexity). Wines are barrel aged for around 11 months before bottling. The bottled wine rested again for another 12 months before release.

The 2019 Wrath 115/667 San Saba Vineyard Pinot Noir begins with an intoxicating aroma of strawberry, cherry and roses with touches of licorice and herbs. It's such a wonderful, attractive bouquet that it's hard to stop smelling it in order to take a sip!

So smooth, so silky and so delicious, this is a super approachable wine that also has plenty of complexity. In the mouth it features great balance with pure, juicy fruit flavors and touches of licorice and herbs. And while it doesn't have a lot of earthiness or spice (although there are nice touches of toasty oak), the fruit is so deep and so delicious that it's almost addictive.

It ends dry and very, very long with just a hint of earthiness underneath the lasting fruit. The whole thing is just as good on day two. The drinkability of this wine is off the charts!
