Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz – Like A Boss

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: August 1, 2019

A deliciously well-done wine, the Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz.

Yalumba Samuel's Collection Barossa Shiraz – Like A Boss

100% Shiraz from 40 year-old vines in the Barossa Valley, Australia. The wine was aged for 10 months in French, Hungarian and American barriques, octaves and hogsheads (15% new) and has just 0.5 g/L of residual sugar. It is also vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz has an SRP of $21 and is available for as low as $18. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. Imported by Winebow.

From the bottle:

Samuel’s Collection: This vineyard collection celebrates Yalumba’s direct lineage to some of Australia’s first vine plantings, several of which could be found in the vineyard Samuel Smith planted at Yalumba over a century and a half ago.

Barossa Shiraz: This vegan friendly Shiraz displays all of the Barossa’s distinctive characteristics. History, climate, geography and craft have come together to produce a Shiraz that pays homage to this famous and remarkable region.

Tasting Notes: Rich aromatics of dark plum, liquorice and anise. The wine is moreish, full and fleshy with a long, concentrated and even palate.

Terroir: This wine reflects an array of terroir from sandy soils to red-brown earth over red clay.

14.5% Alcohol

The 2017 Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz begins with a wonderful aroma of blackberry, black pepper and spice with a little anise and vanilla. Tasting the wine reveals tons of juicy dark fruit and that classic Shiraz goodness with great depth of flavor and well integrated spice and black pepper. This medium to full-bodied wine also features a smooth mouthfeel and silky tannins. It ends dry and long with all the flavors from the palate lingering for a good while in the mouth. This is delicious stuff!

We continue to be impressed with the wines we are tasting out of Australia. If you’d like to find more of our picks for the Best Australian Wines Under $20 you can check out our giant listing here! You can also find more vegan friendly wines here.
