Last Updated on May 25, 2021

The Cape Route Chenin Blanc from Winc is a delicious example of one of our favorite region/variety recommendations for extreme value, South African Chenin Blanc.

Cape Route Chenin Blanc – A Refreshing Exploration

Chenin Blanc from two vineyards (one in Stellenbosch and one in Robertson) in Western Cape, South Africa. The wine is made for Winc by Santa Barbara winemaker and South Africa native Ernst Storm.

Sample submitted for review. The Cape Route Chenin Blanc is available for just $12.99.

From the bottle:

Winemaker Ernst Storm

Each harvest, premier Santa Barbara County winemaker Ernst Storm returns to his South African hometown to make wine, and imparts a modern influence on otherwise traditional winemaking techniques.

Born from two microclimates within the Western Cape, this balanced Chenin Blanc (or Steen as they call it), is a clean, fruit-forward expression of the grape.

13% Alcohol

The 2018 Cape Route Chenin Blanc begins with a pleasing aroma of green apple, pear, lemon and tropical fruit. It’s a good start and from there it only takes one sip to realize the refreshment on this flavorful, slightly sweet wine. In the mouth it shows similar flavors to the nose along with notes of citrus and melon. It ends with really good length and a little bit of minerality and spice on the crisp finish. This is a really nice example of Chenin Blanc from South Africa, one of our longstanding, high-value region/variety recommendations.
