Weekly Wrap-Up: Chocolate, A Bulk Buy, An Unknown Variety and Cheap Pinot Noir! (October 21, 2012)

Brix-Bites-Bounty-2
You probably don’t need an excuse to eat more chocolate, but just in case you now have another one!

Welcome to the weekly wrap-up!

This week started off not with wine, but with chocolate! Brix Bites Chocolate For Wine to be exact. These are specially formulated chocolates with four different cacao levels each designed for different varieties of wine. We tried them with a number of wines and came away very impressed! What’s your favorite indulgence when drinking wine?

On Tuesday we unveiled our latest BULK BUY, the 2008 Saladini Pilastri Pregio del Conte(Montepulciano + Aglianico = Love). This delicious blend of 50% Montepulciano and 50% Aglianico from Le Marche, Italy is made with organic grapes. At only $12, you’ll want to seek out this fabulous bargain.

Wednesday brought one of my favorite varietals, Petite Sirah, and specifically the 2010 Vigilance Petite Sirah (More Lake County Goodness). Grab a few bottles of this Lake County beauty and stick them in your cellar for a couple years. Patience will definitely be rewarded.

Thursday we turned to a little known variety and kicked off a new series on the wines of Austria –Awesome Austrians! The 2010 Zantho Zweigelt (Zvy-gelt) from Burgenland, Austria is the perfect wine for Thanksgiving dinner!

Friday brought our latest Five Favorites post – Fantastic Pinot Noir Under $20! Five of my absolute favorite Pinot Noir, this is another post you’ll want to tuck away for your holiday wine shopping.

Lastly, on Saturday we splurged a little with the 2008 Bonny Doon Vineyard Alamo Creek Syrah. A super smooth wine with lots of fruit and spice plus just about the perfect dose of smoked meat. A really delicious wine that is seriously hard to stop drinking once you start.

And that’s it for this week. Also make sure to check out the Reverse Wine Snob Facebook page to join the discussions on each day’s wine!
