If you’ve read The Reverse Wine Snob for any length of time then you know that I’m a big fan of Syrah. Take for example our recent Bulk Buy on the explosively good Michael David Winery 6th Sense Syrah. Well today we have another fantastic Syrah for you, this time with a bit more age on it — and it wears it well.
The 2005 Miraflores El Dorado Syrah begins with a wonderfully complex and beautiful aroma of blackberry, plum, dried herbs, spice, smoke and more. The wine tastes rich and fruity and is balanced perfectly by spice, herbs, roasted meat, licorice and an earthy minerality. This one has great depth with a smooth, silky and almost creamy texture. It ends a bit toasty with long lasting notes of anise, plum and spice. Excellent and one more reason to love Syrah!
