Attems is one of the Marchesi Frescobaldi estates and we are big fans of their wines, so let’s check this one out.

From the winery:

2024 Attems Sauvignon Blanc

A reliable favorite that always feels invigorating. From Attems, Frescobaldi’s historic estate in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, this Sauvignon is grown on south-facing terraces just west of Gorizia, where gentle winds and the estate’s sand–silt–gravel soils help lock in that signature freshness and bright fruit. Bright in the glass with green reflections and decisively aromatic: tomato leaf, kiwi, and verbena, followed by white grapefruit and a subtle touch of bread crust. The palate is driven by exuberant acidity, with a mint-and-lime lift on the finish that keeps everything snappy and clean. Great on its own as an aperitif and especially good alongside grilled seafood.

VINIFICATION: a small portion of the crushed grapes (15%) underwent a short cold maceration, avoiding contact with oxygen. The juice obtained from the gently pressed grapes was left to decant for 24–48 hours. Subsequently, the clear must began its alcoholic fermentation, which took place at 18–20 °C for 15 days. Vinification was carried out in steel containers, keeping the wine at low temperatures, thereby avoiding malolactic fermentation. After fermentation, the wine rested 4 months on the fine lees, which were regularly resuspended.

The 2024 Attems Sauvignon Blanc opens with pleasing aromas of lemongrass and other grassy notes, lots of herbal notes and some gooseberry and other tropical fruits plus a little apple. It’s a nice start.

The wine tastes just as you would expect from the nose although it’s also not quite as grassy and herbal in the mouth. The nicely balanced wine offers plenty of flavor in the terms of rich fruit and good depth.

It ends crisp, rich and dry on the long finish. This is quite easy to drink.
