Bodega Garzon Cabernet Franc Reserve - Charming

By: Jon Thorsen Published: April 16, 2021 Last Updated: May 25, 2021

Another nice wine from Uruguay, the Bodega Garzon Cabernet Franc Reserve.

Bodega Garzon Cabernet Franc Reserve - Charming

100% Cabernet Franc from Garzon, Uruguay. The wine spends 6 to 12 months in French oak barrels and casks. The wine has 3.3 g/L of residual sugar.

Sample submitted for review. The wine has an SRP of $20 and is available for as low as $15. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. It is imported by Pacific Highway Wines & Spirits.

    From the bottle:

This elegant red wine is a perfect companion for Mediterranean dishes such as roasted pork ribs on fennel and leeks, braised pork tenderloin baked with baby potatoes woth rosemary, or papperdelle with wild mushrooms ragout.

We've enjoyed some lovely Tannat from Uruguay in the past so we were quite excited to pop this one open and give it a try. It turns out Tannat is not the only variety Uruguay can do well.

The 2018 Bodega Garzon Cabernet Franc Reserve begins with a pleasing aroma of blackberry, plum, earth, a little graphite and just a hint of a minty herbal note.

Tasting the wine reveals ripe fruit and no green pepper (pyrazine) notes so often found in Cabernet Franc. This easy to drink wine is full of flavorful fruit with touches of herbs and spice. Add in a smooth mouthfeel and soft tannins and this is a nice little Cab Franc!

It ends dry and quite long with a slightly grippy finish.

Ready to buy? Check your local retailers.
