From the bottle:
Passion is a powerful feeling, a compelling emotion. ‘Gran Passione’ is exactly this, the expression and devotion to our work that honors the tradition of the land.
Gran Passione is a full-bodied, deep red wine with a fine balance between soft tannins and rich red and black fruits. The wine is produced through an ancient process of drying a portion of the grapes in the sun and fermenting the raisins to achieve this unique expression. It will make a fine pairing with roasted red meats, game, stews or mature hard cheeses.
The 2016 Gran Passione Rosso opens with an excellent aroma of plums and sweet berries plus plenty of cocoa and vanilla. Taking a sip reveals similar to the flavors to nose but they combine seamlessly in the mouth in this full-bodied and delicious wine. Add in some wonderfully integrated spice, a smooth and velvety mouthfeel, good acidity and great balance and you have a winner. It ends very long with lingering chocolate-soaked sweet fruit. Great stuff!
This is a fantastic price for a wine made using partially dried grapes (appassimento method) since more grapes are needed in the production. It is a similar process as Amarone, although the grapes are dried much longer there. See our Ask The Expert post on “Why Is Amarone So Expensive?” for more info on that.
