Kirkland Signature Sancerre – Solid

Last Updated on July 20, 2024

Sancerre well under $20 thanks to Costco, we review the Kirkland Signature Sancerre.

Kirkland Signature Sancerre - Solid

100% Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre, Loire Valley, France.

This Kirkland Signature wine is available exclusively at Costco for just $15.99. It is imported by Misa Imports and is still made by Cave de la Vigne Blanche Coopérative de Clessé.

From the bottle:

Kirkland Signature Sancerre is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the most famous appellation of the Loire Valley of France. Grapes are grown on the three terroirs found in Sancerre – chalk, flint, clay-limestone – each adding a degree of complexity.

Aroma: Lemon and ripe citrus mixed with peach and white fruit.

Palate: Concentrated and refreshing with minerality and a fruity finish.

Pairing: Seafoos, white meat and goat cheese.

Bottled by Cave de la Vigne Blanche
13.5% Alcohol

Sancerre is an elite spot for white wines. This tiny region in the Loire Valley is home to some of the best (and most expensive) Sauvignon Blanc in the world. As such, when we found a new vintage of this Kirkland Signature bottling (that retails for well under $20), we were delighted.

It’s been several vintages since we last reviewed it — the 2019 was the last we found in our area. This is likely due to low yields from weather conditions over the last 5 years. Despite this we were also very glad to see that it still retails for just $15.99. Let’s see how it tastes!

The 2022 Kirkland Signature Sancerre opens with a pleasing, inviting aroma of lemongrass, a little orange, lemon zest and some other citrusy notes, plus a bit of a chalky note and a touch of tropical fruit.

Taking a sip reveals a tasty Sauvignon Blanc. It combines more citrus notes plus melon, peach and a little tropical fruit in the mouth. It also features a soft, round mouthfeel and good minerality.

It ends dry and long with lots of lingering chalky notes and just a touch of honey-tinged fruit. It’s definitely solid and a good example of the region, but we’re not necessarily head over heels for it at this price.
