    From the bottle:

Our Costa Dune Nero d'Avola thrives on sandy, coastal terrain characterised by winding dunes. The proximity to the sea gives this wine its excellent structure and roundness.

    13.5% Alcohol

The most popular red grape in Sicily, Nero d'Avola (nay-ro deh ah-voh-lah) is a variety that is crying out to be explored. Grown in Sicily for centuries, the variety has undergone a bit of a renaissance recently with many producers investing time and effort into the grape and their single varietal offerings. Even better the prices have remained relatively low (for now) which makes it an almost a perfect variety for Reverse Wine Snobs.

The 2015 Mandrarossa Nero d'Avola Costa Dune begins with an alluring aroma of sour red cherry, black cherry, ripe plum and spice. The medium-bodied wine tastes smooth and is loaded with red cherry, ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit along with some well integrated peppery spice and nice touches of licorice. All those flavors plus good acidity make it a great pairing for pizza with red sauce and at less than $10 a bottle it should definitely be on your pizza shortlist. It ends dry and smooth with a lasting sweet plum and licorice finish.
