Piccini Memoro Rosso - Smooth and Sweet

By: Jon Thorsen Published: August 4, 2017 Last Updated: May 25, 2021

Piccini Memoro Rosso - Smooth and SweetThe Piccini Memoro Rosso, an unusual but extremely tasty blend of varieties, regions and vintages.

40% Primitivo from Puglia, 30% Montepulciano from Abruzzo, 20% Nero d'Avola from Sicily and 10% Merlot from Veneto, Italy. All varieties were aged 12 months in oak casks before the final blending. This is technically a non-vintage wine since it combines varieties from multiple vintages together.

The Piccini Memoro Rosso has an SRP of $12 and is available for as low as $8. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. Imported by Foley Family Wines. Sample submitted for review.

    From the bottle:

"Memoro Italia", Latin for Remember Italy, was born as a cuvee wine from our family's Italian pride and created as a tribute to our country's exceptional wine-making legacy and love of life.

Plenty of rich black-cherry flavour, with coffee and tobacco on the nose and hints of dried figs and prunes. Reminiscent of Port, but with a dry, complex palate supported by elegant structure and perfectly integrated tannins, the powerful ripe fruit is delightfully balanced. Enjoy at 18C with red meats, richly-flavoured foods and strong cheeses.

    14% Alcohol

The Piccini Memoro Rosso begins with a pleasant and inviting nose of dark fruit, figs and vanilla plus a little oak and spice. Tasting the wine reveals tons of smooth, sweet dark fruit including notes of prunes and raisins. Vanilla and oak continue to be present along with touches of leather. The fruit turns more towards cherry Sweet Tarts on the satisfying finish. A unique and crowd-pleasing blend that is a great choice for fans of sweeter red wines!
