It's been awhile since we highlighted some new wines from Trader Joe's, so we'll be rectifying that over the next few weeks. To kick things off we start with one of our very favorite value varieties, Petite Sirah.
The 2015 Cakebox Reserve Petite Sirah begins with a pleasant, inviting aroma of ripe blackberry, licorice, a little cinnamon spice and chocolate. It needs at least an hour to really open up but I would give it even longer if you can. Tasting reveals a big, jammy Petite Sirah loaded with sweet dark fruit and plenty of chocolate and licorice. All those scrumptious flavors are wrapped up in a dense, rich, silky texture. I'm a huge fan of Petite Sirah all on its own but the addition of Zin and Syrah really crank things up a notch here. It ends with more sweet, ripe blackberry fruit, chocolate and lingering touches of vanilla.
