Picton Bay Sauvignon Blanc – Good Enough

Last Updated on January 23, 2023

A perfectly acceptable, if a bit unexciting, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from Trader Joe’s, the Picton Bay Sauvignon Blanc made by Mount Riley Wines.

Picton Bay Sauvignon Blanc – Good Enough

Sauvignon Blanc from Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand.

Sample submitted for review. This wine is available at Trader Joe’s for just $6.99. There are a handful of other sellers in the US too but at closer to $11 a bottle. It is imported by Sole Brand.

From the bottle:

Picton, at the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, is the gateway to Marlborough. This wine is produced from world famous Marlborough vineyards.

Picton Bay Sauvignon Blanc is classic Marlborough in style – vibrant, fresh and fruity.

Produced and bottled by Picton Bay Wine Ltd
12.5% Alcohol

The 2020 Picton Bay Sauvignon Blanc opens with a pleasing aroma full of grassy guava and other tropical fruit notes.

Tasting the wine reveals a perfectly acceptable New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc but it is lacking a bit of acidity and crispness. Still it’s very easy to drink and a good value at this price. It features more tropical fruit in the mouth plus plenty of lemon, lime and other citrus.

It ends with a dry, decent length finish.
