Revisiting another fabulous Costco find, the Bodegas Ego Goru 18m.

Bodegas Ego Goru 18m - Meaty and Delicious

70% Monastrell, 20% Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot from 50 year old vines in Jumilla, Spain. The wine spends 18 months in new French and American oak barrels and is vegan friendly.

The Bodegas Ego Goru 18m has an SRP of $35; however, we found it at Costco for $15.99. It has an average price of $22 for the other sellers out there on wine-searcher. Around 3,500 cases were produced. It is imported by Tri-vin Imports.

From the bottle:

Handpicked from selected century-old vines located at more than 900 meters altitude. Under the gaze of Goru, the best Monastrell, Syrah and Petit Verdot grapes are selected. Aged in new oak barrel for 18 months, this wine is packed with sweet cherries, chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. It finishes with smooth tannins and hints of bright strawberry and pear.

Traditional elaboration process. Possible sediment does not interfere the wine quality.

The 2016 Bodegas Ego Goru 18m begins with an attractive and engaging aroma full of ripe red fruit along with balsamic, licorice, vanilla, a little coffee and lots of varied spices.

The full-bodied wine needs some time to open up but tastes smooth and savory with lots of deep dark fruit flavors that combine well with all spice notes from the nose. Nicely tannic and with good acidity this is a meaty and delicious wine that gets even better as it has more air.

It ends dry, long and grippy with lingering chocolate and vanilla. Overall it’s similar to the 2015 vintage although it does seem to lacking a bit of depth that wine had.
